Toolbox Talks " Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI)" - October 15, 2015

Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI)-

The GFCI is a fast-acting circuit breaker that senses small imbalances in an electrical circuit caused by the electrical current leaking to ground. If this imbalance occurs, the GFCI shuts off the electricity within a fraction of a second.

What Is Distracted Driving?

There are three main types of distraction:

  • Visual - taking your eyes off the road
  • Manual - taking your hands off the wheel
  • Cognitive - taking your mind off what you're doing

Distracted driving is any non-driving activity a person engages in that has the potential to distract him or her from the primary task of driving and increase the risk of crashing.

First Transportation Projects Using New Revenue Already Wrapping Up

BOISE - Less than six months after allocating funds from the first transportation-revenue increase in nearly two decades, the Idaho Transportation Department is completing the first projects funded with the increase.

A pair of safety-enhancement projects constructing turnbays in north-central Idaho, and a project in south-central Idaho that extended the roadway's lifespan, giving drivers a smoother surface and better ride, were the first to be substantially completed.

Construction Unemployment Falls to Lowest September Mark in 15 Years as Hiring Slows Amid Growing Worker Shortages

The number of unemployed workers with construction experience dropped to the lowest total for September since 2000, as hiring continued to slow despite robust demand for construction, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America. Association officials cautioned that the hiring slowdown most likely reflects a lack of available workers that could lead to project delays unless more students and workers join the construction sector.

Arc Flash Explosions

 

Every day in the United States, five to 10 arc flash explosions occur in electrical equipment. Anyone exposed to such explosions is at high risk for death or serious injury.

Arc flash is described by the National Fire Protection Association as 'a dangerous condition associated with the release of

energy caused by an electric arc.' A reduction of the insulation or isolation distance between energized components is

responsible for this condition.
